Cars and Motorcycles

Like other large European cities, small cars are more practical for narrow streets and small parking spaces. Consequently, there are few SUV’s or minivans and a considerable number of motorcycles. Although the driving age is 18, few teenagers have cars at that age.

Public

There is an excellent network of buses and a subway system in Berlin that extends out to the suburbs. Students can purchase a discounted monthly pass that is inexpensive and practical.

Taxis

Although you can hail a taxi, this is only done by teenagers if they are in an unsafe area or when the buses stop running (3 am – 5 am). Taxis are more common amongst adults.

Inter Country

Within the country, many Germans travel by car to reach their destination. Trains are also very practical, but do not go to all city destinations as one might hope. Surprisingly, the bus network is extensive, and buses are clean and comfortable. Of course, for international travels, taking a plane is the most popular and time-efficient mode of transportation.
